i-pod Identity Crisis

The first new playlist is finished and has done wonders for my dread mill routine. I can't wait to make another (but my i-tunes expenditure for the month is already more than it ought to be, so list #2 will have to wait for now) Thanks for all the suggestions everybody . . . anyone for a 5K?

Workout Playlist #1
Just Dance - Lady Gaga
Since You Been Gone - Kelly Clarkson
Beat It - Michael Jackson
My Life Would Suck - Kelly Clarkson
Human - The Killers
Pride - U2 (Keepin' it real, people)
Love to Hate You - Erasure
Take a Chance on Me - Abba
Single Ladies - Beyonce
A Little Respect - Erasure
A.M. Radio - Everclear
Breathless - The Corrs
Little Red Rodeo - Colin Raye
Stick Shifts and Safety Belts - Cake

I dug out my old Michael Jackson HIStory discs and the kids went wild for them. Michael is a little floored that I even own them. MJ he's okay with, but my old Erasure stuff he can't handle. On the fence about Abba.

I've started thinking that our trusty i-pod is probably having some sort of an identity crisis. I doubt you could find a more eclectic collection of music on any other hard drive currently in existence. Michael's tunes are all old-school. Peter, Paul and Mary, CCR, Beatles along with his classical stuff; Rachmaninoff, Dvorjak, Janos Starker, Shostakovich, etc. I don't think those artists would be very happy to share space with the music from my techno-pop phase. Probably not Van Halen either. Well, maybe Shostakovich and Van Halen would get along. Dean Martin is probably hiding in the recesses of the hard drive hoping neither of them find out he's there. Then again, maybe he and Sinatra are hitting on Beyonce. You never know.

Bono is likely looking for a charity case. Maybe he can help the Bare Naked Ladies work out some sort of a truce so they can all play nicely together again (I know, all good bands break up eventually . . . I'm having a hard time letting BNL go.) I'm sure Bono knows enough to keep Michael Jackson away from the Vienna Boy's Choir.
I hope they can all work out their differences and band together long enough to beat up Rod Stewart should anyone ever have the audacity to try to sneak him in. Maybe we should nominate a bouncer to keep Rod Stewart, Michael Bolton, and Toni Braxton out.
Guns N Roses?
Whoever it is, I'd have to let them know that MoTab is cool, Barry Mannilow is allowed so long as the only song he sings is "Mandy" and Raffi's getting the boot as soon as all the kids graduate elementary school.

Sounds like a good list to me. I love Human by the Killers, it is currentaly my ring tone on my phone. So Mandy, Are you Human? or are you a Dancer?

No "I Made it Through the Rain" allowed? Oh well..."well you came, and you gave without taking!"

Brilliant post, by the way! And if I were in your music mix, I just might be a little smitten with Beyonce, too. Have you seen her video for Single Ladies?! She's amazing!

Thom's iPod may give yours a run for its money! Kids' music, country, Brazilian pop, Chinese, Quebecois, classical, folk, bluegrass, old-time, American pop, marching band stuff, church music, etc. His ipod gives you musical whiplash if you don't go through playlists.

About poor Barry, I think he should be allowed to sing Copa Cabana every once in a while don't you????

I took some of the suggestions on the lists from your commenters and made myself one heck of a playlist for my "workout mix." It got me through my yucky 5K in the rain last weekend. Thanks, everybody!

There is a 5K in Tualatin on June 12, a cancer run, I think. Also, the Crawfish Festival 5K is the other one that I am planning on doing this summer. Take your pick.

I would like you to burn that list for me on a CD so I can upload it onto my own I-pod. Then, it would be like I am running with you! Although, I am pretty sure you would leave me in your dust!
