Hustle Bustle

Below is a photo of part of the cast from the school musical, The Wizard of Oz. Seth was a soldier, and did a great song and dance that is only recorded on the video camera. As I'm too lazy to walk downstairs and get it right now, this picture will have to suffice. (Yes, I did run five miles this morning, is that irony?) Also on the video cam is the recording of his performance at the school talent show. He played Ode to Joy and Old West Rodeo on the piano. Considering we still have performances at the Cub Scout talent show and a piano recital this week, I think he'll be able to play those songs in his sleep by the weekend.
I made cupcake trees for my niece's baptism. They almost killed me. Now Al wants them for her birthday too.
The fam came for the niece's baptism. This picture well summarizes the visit. Busy happy chaos . . . they can come again any time.
These are the remains from T's dinner last night. He didn't want the bread any more after he buttered it himself. Obviously I was distracted at the time.
It is that time of year again, when I'm going to have to take a hiatus from blogging for a little while (aka blog-cation). There are too many performances, games, parties, birthdays, weddings, field days, etc.
At least we're not moving . . . we'll throw that into the mix next year!
Farewell internets! See you in a few weeks!

Weekend

Taqueria and Michael Buble.
Best. Date. Ever.
Thanks to my Michael, who didn't act at all put out about attending a chick concert, and actually sprang for some pretty great seats.
The opening act was worth recognition too, though please don't mention Naturally Seven to Seth, we'd prefer he think of his beat boxing as a hobby and not a viable career option.

Saturday/Sunday we had chocolate, an egg hunt, chocolate, lunch with the local fam and some chocolate while enjoying conference. Thomas refers to President Monson as "MY Monson," which only makes sense, as Thomas S. Monson sounds a lot like Thomas' Monson.

Hopefully Monday isn't too much of a letdown.

Flash

You know it must have been an okay musical number when everyone at church tells you so afterward . . . and hardly anyone even mentions the fact that your three-year-son ran up on the stand in the middle of the song and lifted up the back of your dress for all the clergymen behind you to see.

Gosh I'll be glad when Michael doesn't have to work Sundays anymore.

The Cake That Wasn't Meant to Be

Yesterday I made Texas Sheet Cake for my Relief Society Christmas Party. It's my grandma's recipe and it is deeee-lish-US. You'll just have to trust me on that because almost nobody got to eat it and here's why:
When I went downstairs to change my clothes Thomas managed reach up and gouge multiple little finger sized holes in the cake and frosting. That wasn't such a big deal because Texas Sheet Cake is huge, it was in a jelly-roll sized pan. I just cut it and placed half the clean pieces on a platter and half on a cake pedestal, since I didn't have a platter big enough for all of it. Then I packed all the cake carefully into the car and padded the underside of the pedestal with my purse because the pedestal is a little top heavy.
I drove slowly down the hill to protect my precious cargo, but it didn't matter. The purse rolled out from under the pedestal and the precious cargo spilled all over the floor of the car. All I had to offer at the party was a small plate-sized platter of cake, and all I could do was laugh about it.

And for everyone who asked, the name of the song Lynn and I sang at the party was Star Bright by Lorin F. Wheelwright. Sheet music available here.

Haul Out the Holly

Confession time. I listen to Christmas music in October. Michael and I have a heated discussion (well, for us . . . other couples it might view our heated arguments as casual banter) every fall about when it is appropriate to bust out the holiday CDs.
I think that I need to get festive in order to properly begin my shopping regimen.
Michael believes that it is ludicrous to even HUM Jingle Bells (including the Batman Smells version) before Thanksgiving.

He doesn't know that I slipped a Christmas CD into the player in his car for his enjoyment first thing tomorrow morning. And I turned the volume way up.

Sometimes I crack myself up.
