It isn't actually so bad to turn into my mother (she's a pretty cool lady), but the increasing cognizance of my own age vexes me a little. I hear myself say things at the grocery like, "Alice? Do you know what my favorite sound in the whole world is? The sound of not whining." And I remember myself at five years old, completely irritated that my mother was not listening to me explain (with nice long syllables so she'd get the point) exactly why we should buy that box of Luckyyyyyyyy Chaaaaaaarms.
I hear myself talking about mortgages, calories, politics, interest rates and coupons.
I hear myself at my soccer game, telling the 19-year old super star on the other team that this is the beginner league, to be careful . . . she's injuring our inexperienced players. My teammates report that right after she apologized to my face, she turned her back, pulled a face and mouthed my words with an exaggerated sneer. To her I sound like Charlie Brown's school teacher, "Wah wah, wah wah wah wah."
Sigh. I guess it is time for me to go shopping for a pair of these.

I love this post (and I totally love the "Mom Jeans")!
OH! I want some of those jeans too. sexy.
and btw, I know EXACTLY what you mean.
I cannot view the video, but I know you are making fun of my favorite kind of jeans! Who wants to sit at a desk all day with a metal zipper and metal button cutting into your skin? Huh? Huh?
I'm glad that you are not too upset by turning into me though. I try to be cool, but have you started answering all of your kids questions with the appropriate song lyric? Once you do that, you will be me!Love you! MOM
Yep, yep, and yep. I feel myself becoming my mother and it is disturbing. But NO to the jeans.
Moo, the last official "right" of passing into true mother hood is when you surrender into understanding that the comfort of "mother jeans" far out weighs the need to be seens as "cool" in fasion jeans. You're getting there and gettin it! This is all TIC, love Dad
I totally know what you mean. It's scary how much of my Mom I am becoming, without meaning to. I bet I'd really like your mom though :)
Laughing. I'm laughing, pretty hard. Brings back some pretty sweet soccer memories. c
I love my mom (Hi Mom) but I am fighting every day not to turn into her. One day I will succumb and my hubby told me he would let me know when it happens. Have Fun.
